“Zine Me 2:” An Adult Zine Workshop
November 28 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
A new workshop for adults ages 18 and up: On the tail of our teen & young adult zine workshop entitled “Zine Me!,” we’ve had many requests for an adult edition. Your wish has been granted! The Sayre Public Library is proud to announce a new, free workshop for adults ages 18 and up in the community. Held on Tuesday, November 28th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the library, the workshop is entitled “Zine Me 2!”
Have you ever heard of a ‘zine?’ Zines – short for “magazine,” or “fanzine” – are independently or self-created & published magazines, pamphlets, fold-outs, and booklets. Zines are often made in unique ways, and utilize readily available tools and a D.I.Y. ethos.
First, this workshop offers attendees a look at the history & context of zines. The library will offer a brief and engaging presentation, as well as a selection of sourced physical examples to view, handle, and read.
Second, this event will offer a makerspace workshop for attendees to create their very first zine in multiple ways: with supplies provided by the library, attendees may saddle-stitch their own booklets in order to take home and fill. They may also use cut-ups, drawings, and glue, along with a copier machine to create ‘Xerox’-style zines. Or, they may simply work at freehand methods using folding, stacking, or stapling techniques.
Third, and perhaps most excitingly, attendees are offered the opportunity to help start a small, catalogued zine collection here at the library. This gives attendees the opportunity to offer a material to the library collection for circulation — one which they have authored & created themselves. It also provides the chance for continued zine making, which may be used to widen the collection. As an incentive for creating in the library, use of our copier and in-house materials is free for any zine-makers!
For supply purposes, we ask that all participants sign-up by calling, emailing, or stopping in the library. To do this, or to contact us for more information by:
