SUMMARY:Death\, Sickness\, and the Graves of U.S. Presidents: Part 2 w/ Michael Sisto
DESCRIPTION:Looking to explore the spooky side of history? Join us once again as Presidential Historian Michael Sisto leads us through the lives and deaths of some of our Presidents! While this talk is not a continuation of last October’s lecture\, it is like a sequel with all new Presidents being the focal point\, including: Andrew Jackson\, George H.W. Bush\, and John F. Kennedy. This talk is based on Michael Sisto’s extensive research and cross-country travels including his most recent “Dead Presidents Tour” this past summer of the American South. This presentation will give listeners the facts and sometimes humorous stories behind a variety of Presidential sicknesses\, deaths\, and their graves.     \n\nPresidential Historian\, Michael Sisto has lived in the valley for thirty-seven years; he graduated with a degree in History from Mansfield University with a focus in Presidential History. He then obtained his Masters in Museum Studies from Johns Hopkins University. For as long as Mike can remember he has had a love for all things Presidential\, he has gone to numerous Presidential sites\, homes\, museums\, birth places and has visited thirty-three of the forty president’s grave sites.

SUMMARY:LSC Virtual Author Talk: Asha Frost

Through storytelling\, ceremonies\, and Shamanic journeys\, learn to apply ancient wisdom to your life in ways that are respectful and conscious of the stolen lands\, lives\, and traditions of Indigenous peoples. \nDiscover how to: \n– Ground and root into your own lineage and meet your Ancestral guides.\n– Practice self-care and rest on your journey.\n– Return to Ancestral ways of cleansing and purifying.\n– Trust and surrender so you can manifest and thrive.\n– Release self-doubt\, fear\, disconnection\, and insecurity. \nRegister now and take the first step toward recognizing and reclaiming your innate wisdom. \n  \nAbout the Author: \nAsha Frost (she/her) is an Indigenous Medicine Woman and a member of the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation. She is from the Crane Clan\, the totem of leadership\, and believes in holding space from vision and heart. As an energy healer\, homeopath\, and mentor\, Asha has guided thousands of people through profound and lasting transformation. \nImpacted by generational trauma and colonization\, Asha has been on a lifelong journey of reclamation. A lupus diagnosis sent her on a path of studying and practicing a multitude of energy Medicine modalities with many guides. She has blended this life experience with her innate gifts and the wisdom of her Ancestors. She loves sharing her Medicine in powerful ways through Ceremonies\, teachings\, and speaking events. Through this work\, she loves seeing people reclaim their roots\, find their healing wisdom\, and rise into their power. \nAsha lives on Anishinaabe\, Huron-Wendat\, and Haudenosaunee Territory\, with her husband and two beautiful children\, with whom she co-creates a better world for the seven generations to come.

SUMMARY:LSC Virtual Author Talk: Zach and Kelly Weinersmith
DESCRIPTION:Registration: \nLSC | Register | Sayre Public Library (libraryc.org) \nDescription: \nJoin us for an out-of-this-world virtual conversation with New York Times bestselling authors Kelly and Zach Weinersmith as they dive into their book\, A City on Mars: Can We Settle Space\, Should We Settle Space\, and Have We Really Thought This Through? \nEarth is not well. The promise of starting life anew somewhere far\, far away—no climate change\, no war\, no doomscrolling—beckons\, and settling the stars finally seems within our grasp. Or is it? Critically acclaimed\, bestselling authors Kelly and Zach Weinersmith set out to write the essential guide to a glorious future of space settlements\, but after years of research\, they aren’t so sure it’s a good idea. \nIn a world hurtling toward human expansion into space\, A City on Mars investigates whether the dream of new worlds won’t create nightmares\, both for settlers and the people they leave behind. In the process\, the Weinersmiths answer every question about space you’ve ever wondered about\, and many you’ve never considered: \nCan you make babies in space? Should corporations govern space settlements? What about space war? Are we headed for a housing crisis on the Moon’s Peaks of Eternal Light—and what happens if you’re left in the Craters of Eternal Darkness? Why do astronauts love taco sauce? Speaking of meals\, what’s the legal status of space cannibalism? \nWith deep expertise\, a winning sense of humor\, and art from the beloved creator of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal\, the Weinersmiths investigate perhaps the biggest questions humanity will ever ask itself—whether and how to become multiplanetary. \nRegister today to be a part of the discussion! \n  \nAbout the Authors: \nZach Weinersmith is best known as the cartoonist of the comic Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. He also co-wrote the bestselling science books Soonish and A City on Mars with his wife\, and worked with the artist Boulet to create a children’s retelling of the story of Beowulf called Bea Wolf. \nDr. Kelly Weinersmith is an adjunct faculty member at Rice University\, and is currently President of the Helminthological Society of Washington and the American Society of Parasitologists. Her research on animal behavior and parasites has been featured in The Atlantic\, National Geographic\, BBC World\, Science\, Nature\, and more. Kelly co-wrote the New York Times bestsellers Soonish: Ten Emerging Technologies That’ll Improve And/Or Ruin Everything and A City on Mars: Can We Settle Space\, Should We Settle Space\, and Have We Really Thought This Through?. In 2024\, she and her co-author/husband Zach received a Hugo Award and the Royal Society Trivedi Book Prize for A City on Mars. Kelly is also co-host of the podcast Daniel and Kelly’s Extraordinary Universe.

SUMMARY:LSC Virtual Author Talk: Paul Vigna
DESCRIPTION:Registration: \nLSC | Register | Sayre Public Library (libraryc.org) \nDescription: \nJoin us for an eye-opening conversation with veteran journalist Paul Vigna as we examine his provocative book\, The Almightier: How Money Became God\, Greed Became Virtue\, and Debt Became Sin\, in which he explores the question: how did money go from a tool of commerce into the dominant faith of modern society? \nIn The Almightier\, Vigna takes readers on a sweeping historical journey from Renaissance Florence to today’s global financial markets\, revealing how wealth accumulation evolved from a moral failing into an unspoken civic virtue. He uncovers the forgotten history of money\, tracing the uneasy and often accidental alliance between wealth and religion as it developed from ancient city-states to today’s secular world\, where religious devotion has receded and greed has stepped in to fill the void. \nThrough engaging anecdotes\, original research\, and fresh perspectives on the causes of the many challenges we face today\, Vigna makes a compelling argument that money has no power apart from the power we give it. \nWhether you are interested in economic history\, personal finance\, or the hidden cultural forces shaping modern life\, this talk is sure to pique your interest. \nRegister today to learn more about how devotion to money has replaced religion as the foundation of our society. \n  \nAbout the Author: \nPaul Vigna is an author\, journalist\, editor and speaker\, with a particular focus on capital markets and cryptocurrencies. He is the author of Guts: The Anatomy of The Walking Dead and coauthor of The Age of Cryptocurrency and The Truth Machine. For 25 years\, he was a reporter and editor for Dow Jones Newswires and the Wall Street Journal\, pioneering coverage of the cryptocurrency sector. He has appeared on CNN\, CNBC\, MSNBC\, Fox\, and PBS.
